What a weird time for music (and life in general) we find ourselves in. Finding rooms with ventilation and adequate space to social distance was never a concern for musicians until now, but despite this we managed to fit everyone together and have a real rehearsal.
I am very excited and fortunate to be working with the Ohio University Collegiate Chapter of the Music Teachers National Association on a commission project! The project features local Athens poet Wendy McVicker as both the author of the text and as a sound source for the fixed media. The poem we chose, What Matters, reflects upon this little corner of the world we find ourselves in, here in Southeast Ohio. Despite the challenges of rural life and the relative lack of amenities and support that this region suffers from, we are surrounded with a great natural treasure, and this poem celebrates that in the most beautiful way possible.
What Matters will be available to listen tomorrow night at the link posted on the works page!
